It is the responsibility of the board to determine the risk appetite of the organization and to set policy in relation to the same. Active engagement by the board in enterprise risk oversight strengthens the organizations resilience to significant risk exposure.

Learning Objectives


This 2-day program explores the complex issues faced by today’s boards in relation to Risk Management. In particular we shall seek to address some of the following issues;

Directors Role in Effective Enterprise Risk Oversight:

  1. Understanding the organizations risk philosophy.
  2. Understanding the extent to which your organization has established effective enterprise risk management.
  3. Reviewing an organizations portfolio of risk and its alignment to the firms risk appetite.

Fraud Risk and Setting the Tone at the Top: What is the board’s role in preventing financial statement fraud? What red flags should directors be aware of in assessing the likelihood that fraud could occur at a company?:

  1. Origins of financial fraud,
  2. The factors present at organizations that have experienced high-profile corporate failures and common warning signs.
  3. The board’s responsibilities for financial fraud.

Creating the Risk Intelligent Organization: How can directors fulfil their responsibilities related to risk monitoring in large, complex organizations that operate in rapidly changing competitive and regulatory environments?

Strategic Risk Evaluation & Management:

  1. Assessing levels of risk
  2. Recognizing different types of risk
  3. Risk vs Entrepreneurial decisions
  4. Defining your risk management appetite
  5. How do you establish a risk culture in the organization?
  6. Delegation and monitoring of risk
  7. Risk reporting
