Dr. Hassan Bashir brings over 27 years of leadership experience across Africa’s private, development, and educational sectors. He has founded and scaled several companies spanning insurance, technology, healthcare, fintech, the creator economy, and livestock farming. He advises industry regulators, universities, multilateral development banks (MDBs), and private firms on insurance and risk management, climate risk, governance, and strategy.
He serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at USIU-Africa’s Chandaria School of Business, where he teaches sustainable entrepreneurship, leadership, and governance. He is currently a Senior Consultant on Climate Insurance and Governance under the De-Risking Agricultural Finance and Climate Resilience (DAFCR) program within the Agriculture Finance and Rural Development Department of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
He is also a key resource in the design and development of the Africa Climate Risk Insurance Facility for Adaptation (ACRIFA), an initiative aimed at mobilizing $1 billion in concessional, high-risk capital and grants to de-risk private sector investments and accelerate the development and uptake of climate insurance solutions for Africa’s agri-food sector. In addition, Dr. Bashir is a member of the eminent High-Level Panel on Closing the Climate Protection Gap at the Centre of Disaster Protection (CDP) in London.
